Couples' Counselling Therapy
I offer trauma-informed counselling therapy to couples by utilizing a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities and techniques designed to strengthen the relationship such as Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman's Method Couples Therapy, Schema Therapy, Attachment Theory, Solutions Focused, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) amongst others that are integrated and interwoven into each session designed around each couple uniquely.
The length of sessions and frequency will vary and will be developed in terms of setting and reaching the specific agreed upon goals within the relationship, but typically sessions will be 1 hour in length.
Throughout the course of the therapy couples will learn to identify repetitive, negative interaction cycles as a pattern, be able to better understand each others communication styles to restore harmony, develop skills in empathetic and active listening, create new and positive bonds, establish better intimacy, and learn how to use effective tools to navigate conflict when it arises.
In couples therapy the relationship is ultimately the client and I work very hard to remain in a transparent place of treating each person within the relationship with the same amount of respect, dignity and acceptance.
Each person can also request that I see them on an individual basis outside of the couples sessions to work on personal struggles such as past traumas and life events, anxiety, abuse, depression, low-self worth and self-esteem, the inability to set boundaries, anger, grief and loss, managing and reducing stress levels, addictions, and recognizing, identifying and altering their thoughts, behaviors and overwhelming emotions that may be causing an impact on an individual level which in turn may be affecting the relationship as well.
