Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I'm unable to afford your rate?

I ask that you don't let my rate discourage you from contacting me! I've been able to refer clients to counsellors/therapists who may be able to accommodate your financial situation.

What can I expect with my first appointment with you?

I strive to make each and every one of my clients feel heard, welcome, and accepted no matter why you're attending counselling. You will be greeted, and we will go over some of your presenting struggles/problems so that I can gather a better sense of what may be happening in your life at the present time. I will also complete a full assessment with you to gather some history. You will leave the session understanding my therapeutic style, how we can work together to start to address your concerns, how subsequent sessions will look like, and how we can collaborate together to create some goals for you to work toward reaching while in counselling with me.

How long can I expect to come to counselling?

There is no one answer to this question. Typically more than a session or two is necessary to make any impact on what brings someone in, some clients find a few sessions are sufficient, while others choose to continue longer term (over 20 sessions).

Often clients choose to continue to work with me through additional situations as they arise, while others choose to address additional situations outside of the therapeutic environment. There's not one correct answer for this, but we can work in collaboration to help you make the best choice for yourself.

What forms of payment do you accept?

KB Counselling Services accepts payments including Visa, MasterCard, debit, and e-transfers. Clients who have personal health insurance and extended coverage may have all or a portion of their services covered, and I will provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance plan for reimbursement. Please be sure to review the details of your insurance coverage to know whether your plan includes coverage for counselling services and if you require a physician's referral or pre-approval first.

Given the unpredictability that insurance coverage can create, I've chosen to charge out of pocket to avoid any surprise bills in your inbox. This also allows me to offer more individualized care to each of my clients.
